El Salvador

Sign saying "Stop the bombing: US out of El Salvador"

OK, so I’ve been a bit lame recently. The truth is I was tired of travelling – of meeting people for short, shallow periods, of moving from place to place, of living out of a rucksack. And I was bored of writing, I guess that goes with my mood (funnily enough, the same happened before [...]

Dancing Horses

Dancing Horse

Whilst volunteering at La Biosfera, the annual Hipico parade took place in nearby Jinotega. Traditionally, the wealthy folk bring their best horses to town, which they have trained to dance! Yes, seriously, here’s an example. There are some photos up too, including quite a few other adventures in Nicaragua. Note: if you can’t see the video, go to [...]

Town Mouse or Country Mouse?

The view from La Biosfera

I left you last in Leon, Nicaragua’s second city and former capital. It’s a nice city, despite the overwhelming heat. I have also visited many of Nicaragua´s other cities: Masaya, Granada and Managua…

Boats, Buses and More Boats

Pushing the bus

After an 11 hour ferry ride sleeping on a makeshift bed of life vests in an icily air-conditioned room, one does not want to be told that all onward boats are already full. One was. And one went to catch the bus instead, which went at least most of the way to one’s destination, El [...]

On to Nicaragua – Ometepe

Moyogalpa with Concepcion behind

Hi folks! Sorry it’s been a few weeks since my last post. I’ve been so busy travelling and gathering new experiences, I haven’t had time to share them. Besides, I’ve been off in some pretty remote places where the word “internet” is greeted with a creased brow and puzzled expression. However, after three weeks in [...]

One Year On

With Mum and Dad at Volcano Poás

Last Saturday, 17th March, marked one year since I left the U.K. I guess a year isn’t as long as it used to be and time flies when you’re having fun and all that. However, I was surprised to see my anniversary creep up on me so surreptitiously. Time to reflect a little. Since leaving Colombia my [...]
